I am sure that you have noticed all of the inchworms and their silks over the past few weeks. They are everywhere. The mild weather has led to a huge influx of these inchworms or cankerworms. Here is an article from the News and Observer pertaining to inchworms. The most notable sentence; "Two varieties are hatching in abundance: the fall cankerworms, whose
eggs survived the mild winter on the ground; and the spring cankerworms,
which hatch just as leaves are sprouting – especially willow oak."
