After a hiatus, the Willow Oaks golf course maintenance blog has returned. We will be posting information about our current and future projects, course conditions, and other turf information. Follow the blog to avoid missing these updates.
Over the last two days, the course has received 2.2" of rainfall. The course experienced some bunker wash, standing water, and downed limbs. We are lucky the projected crest of the James River will not impact the course. Currently the course is very wet and our team continues to monitor drains and and remove storm debris. The cleanup process will be our focus for the next several days.
Winter projects keep our team busy. These projects range from refurbishing the course amenities to installing stone along cart path edges. Upcoming posts will focus on our other winter projects, but for this post I wanted to highlight some projects that will have a direct impact on course conditions and playability. There are several locations around the course that are in need of drainage, our team is focusing on the ten wettest areas this winter. Thus far, we have installed drainage in eight of these areas. As you can tell from the pictures below, some projects are smaller in scope, while many grow to a larger scope to properly drain the area.
